Elemental Guardians

Elemental Guardians is jewelry in stones that tradition links with strength, clarity and protection: lapis lazuli, tiger's eye, red agate and cinnabar, with amethyst, rutilated quartz, malachite and kiln-fired liuli glass beside them. At its centre are the four Five-Element Harmony bracelets. In Chinese five-element tradition each combines three elements, such as Water, Earth and Metal, in 8mm beads with a 福 charm. The royal cinnabar bracelet has a stated cinnabar content of 90% and comes in 8mm or 10mm beads. Two bracelets use lab-created yellow jade and are labelled so. Bead sizes across the collection run from about 6mm to 12mm. Element, zodiac and guardian language is given as tradition or belief, never as a promised result.

Material

Tiger's eye, lapis lazuli, red agate and cinnabar

Four stones with long histories in amulets. Tiger's eye is a banded quartz with a moving band of light. Lapis lazuli is a deep blue rock, often flecked with golden pyrite. Red agate, including Southern red agate, is a banded chalcedony. Cinnabar is mercury sulfide; GrainMoon's royal cinnabar bracelet is described as 90% cinnabar content.

How to judge quality

Tiger's eye: by the sharpness and movement of the light band. Lapis: by an even, saturated blue with little grey calcite; fine golden pyrite flecks are accepted and often liked. Red agate: by the evenness and saturation of the red and the smoothness of the banding. Cinnabar: by the depth of the crimson and the fineness of the carved detail.

Care

Wipe all four with a soft dry cloth. Keep lapis away from water, acids and ultrasonic cleaners; it is porous and can dull. Cinnabar is a mercury mineral: wear it as jewelry, do not heat it, grind it, carve it or put it in the mouth, wash your hands after long handling, and keep it away from small children.

Tradition

These stones are traditionally worn as symbols of strength, clarity and protection: tiger's eye for courage and focus, lapis for clarity, red for good fortune in Chinese tradition, cinnabar as a guardian colour used for centuries in lacquer, seals and amulets. Tradition, not a result.

Questions

Is cinnabar safe to wear?

It is worn as jewelry in a sealed, polished form. Do not heat it, grind it or put it in the mouth, and keep it away from small children. If you would rather avoid a mercury mineral, choose another stone; our pages name it plainly so you can.

Is the lapis dyed?

Nothing in our data states a dye for the lapis pieces. The source describes them as natural lapis lazuli.

What makes the light move in tiger's eye?

Parallel fibres inside the stone reflect light in a single band, which shifts as the stone turns.

What is Southern red agate?

Nanhong, a red agate known for a dense, even red. It is the name used in our source data.

Do these stones bring luck or protection?

They are traditionally worn as symbols of those things. We describe the tradition and promise nothing.
